The meaning of life

The shtetl's rabbi was on his death bed and his followers surrounded him hoping for a last piece of wisdom they could keep.
 One man asked the rabbi: "Rebe, what is the meaning of life?"
"Life", the rabbi said, "is like a fountain"
Word spread throughout the shtetl of what the rabbi said and debates on the meaning of his words broke out. The arguing became so heated that people were fighting and punching.
But the rabbi was still alive so someone had the presence of mind to go to him and ask:
"Rebe, what do you mean by saying that the life is like a fountain?"
The rabbi answered:
"Do you mean that the life isn't like a fountain?"
